Big Spending to Insulate Economy

Monday, 9 February 2009

Australians will be able to cut their energy bills and enjoy a more comfortable year-round environment thanks to the Government’s massive new stimulus package which offers generous incentives for insulating homes. The scheme will pay up to $1600 towards the cost of insulating existing owner-occupied homes and up to $1000 for rental properties. The move represents a further step towards greening our suburbs, with incentives for solar systems and rainwater tanks also working to cut household environmental footprints.

The stimulus package should also do much to help our struggling construction sector. In Sydney the amount of new construction has fallen to its lowest level in over thirty years. Many of those currently out of work are soon expected to be engaged installing insulation or upgrading school facilities. The Government will be banking on a revitalised housing sector to support jobs once the first home buyers grant and stimulus package initiatives have concluded.
